The Masters, or the US Masters, is considered the most prestigious prize in golf and is the first major of the calendar year played in April. Unlike the other three majors, the Masters is always held at the same venue, Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, and has a smaller field than the other majors due to being an invitation only event.
Historically, the tournament has been played in April since its creation in 1934, with the exception being in 2020 when it was moved to November due to COVID. The tournament in November also saw the record aggregate score of -20, shot by winner Dustin Johnson. The current single round record is shared by Nick Price (1986) and Greg Norman (1996) who shot a -9 63.
There have also been 34 recorded holes-in-one, with the last being recorded in 2022 by Stewart Cink.

The 2026 Masters takes place at Augusta National Golf Club on Thursday 9th April – Sunday 12th April. The competition will be held over 4 rounds, with a cut taking place between the 2nd and 3rd rounds to shorten the field.
The Masters consists of a smaller field than other golf majors; between 90-100 players will compete in the Masters compared to roughly 150+ in the other majors.
The Masters is invitation-only and you must meet specific criteria to compete such as being in the Top 50 on the world rankings the week leading up to the competition. By winning the Masters you also get a lifetime exception to playing in it. US Amateurs can also compete in the Masters if they win one of the few major amateur championships.
There have been multiple golfers over the age of 65 who have competed in the Masters, however Fred Couples holds the record of being the oldest to make the cut in 2023 at 63 years old.
In comparison the youngest player to ever compete in the Masters, and make the cut, is Guan Tianlang who was 14 during the 2013 tournament.
The 2025 Masters saw a record $21 Million on offer to the field, with the winner taking home $4.2 Million.
Sky Sports have secured the coverage once again for the 2026 Masters.
2022 & 2024 winner Scottie Scheffler is the current favourite to win his 3rd green jacket at 3/1. In doing so he would become the 9th golfer in history to win 3 or more Masters Championships, and halfway towards Jack Nicklaus 6 Masters wins.
2025 winner Rory McIlroy is second favourite at 7/1. The Northern Irishman won his first Masters last year to become a grand slam champion, and finally putting his infamous 2011 collapse behind him once and for all.
Two-time major winner, LIV golfer, and now YouTube star Bryson Dechambeau is at 13/1. Last year was the closest Bryson came to securing the green jacket for the first time but was unable to overcome McIlroy.
The most prestigious golfer of the modern era Tiger Woods is 150/1 to tie Jack Nicklaus with six Masters wins. Woods famously came back from a series of injuries in 2019 to secure his fifth Masters championship, and ending a nearly 11-year major drought.
